Description

Starting with the current 2026/04/27 versions, when joining a channel minimized, and the Topicbox is set to Show Sticky, each extra character in the topic of the channel will add an extra line to the topicbox (up to half), half-filling the channel window with the topicbox (mostly empty space).

Notes

A channel topic needs to have >1 character to see the issue.
After opening the channel window, resizing the window will fix it.

Repro

  1. Open AdiIRC
  2. Dismiss the Quick Connect window
  3. Open Options, Windows category, Topicbox tab, change the Topicbox dropdown option to 'Show Sticky', then press the Save button and then the Close button
  4. Connect to a server and join a channel minimized with a sufficiently lengthy topic (>1 character), ex: /server irc.libera.chat -jn #ircdriven
  5. Click on the newly joined channel in the Treebar to open the channel window
  6. Note that the size of the topicbox half-fills the channel window, mostly with empty space

Screenshots

Repro shown:
Left: Version 2026/04/27, topicbox fills half the channel, most of it is empty
Right: Version 2023/10/29, topicbox fills exactly the right size of the topic text

Showing repro on 2026/04/27 (left) and 2023/10/29 (right)

Somewhat more clear example with a shorter topic:
